A ghost town in outback South Australia, with a 130-year-old wood-fired oven beneath it, thought to be the only underground one still working in the country. A passionate team of volunteers decend to fire the oven for eight weeks of the year.
Using the bakers' pre-dawn start, we caught the volunteers at sunrise. The portraits are deliberately formal, set against the ruins and the landscape, lending a quiet significance to the people who keep the bakery running.
